I think it is great to honor single mothers. I know, being raised by divorced parents, that it is a challenge to raise a family on your own. I also think it is a great idea to donate money to help these women who desperately need it. I look around and see the financial strain living in general is, but I can't imagine paying for all the bills, and being able to put food on the table as well. My parents divorced when I was in 7th grade, and I have always lived with my mother. She has always worked full time, and yet was always amazing at being there for me. I know it was a big relief when I started to drive, because then she didn't have to taxi me around all the time. I guess when you are young, it is hard to understand how much parents do even when it comes to driving. Congrats to the single mothers of Cobb County, they are doing great!
ReplyDeleteOh Montye! This is such a wonderful thing and I can't tell you how awesome it is that you are apart of something that affects (notice i used the correct spelling Prof. Thomas ;))so many people today. I've been reading a book by a veryyyyyy right-wing women, Ann Coulter. I decided to read it just out of curiosity but have been floored by the many references to single mothers she makes. It appears to me that Ms. Coulter would have you believe that the current state of moral muck that the U.S is currently in is due soley to the villan that is the single mother. While there are some other ideas in her book that are at best interesting, this was not one. I am ashamed to hear a woman talk about a huge segment of our society in such a demeaning manner. It's a breath of fresh air to hear that people have not forgotten the incredible strength and integrity it takes to be a single mother. Really though, I could go on for days about this but I'd rather not because I get all hyped up about role of dead beat dads and I don't want to take away from this.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting article, Montye. I think it is so wonderful that you are part of this organization. I personally am not affected by this situation but I know how difficult it must be to be a single parent. Raising children is one of the toughest jobs out there and to do it alone must be very struggling. I totally support this cause and respect all of the single mothers who are trying their hardest to raise their children by themselves. Especially in an economy like this, it only makes the job even more challenging. I just know there are some mothers out there who have been laid off from their jobs and getting through each day trying to support their families must be so hard. My prayers go out to all of those women. I think it is absolutely wonderful that a program has been developed to award them and all of their hard work. I hope that I may never have to be apart of this organization but I would love to reach out to those who are and tell them how much I appreciate their dedication.
